Metro Gymnastics Center’s staff is carefully selected and they
are continually improving their professionalism through education and
certification programs. Metro Gymnastics Center provides staff training
in a multitude of physical activities that will benefit your child throughout
their lives. The entire Metro staff is required to be First Aid/CPR certified
as well as Level 1 Accredited.
Dale Agbayani
Dale is the Cheer Program Director, Head Cheer Tumbling
and All-Stars Coach. He was a competitive gymnast for
11 years and has coached competitive gymnastics for
13 years and cheerleading for 7 years. His past experience
includes serving as a Girls Team Coach for levels 4-8,
Director of Cheer Authority Titans in Florida, as well
as the Head tumbling coach for several national championship
teams at all levels. Dale coaches individuals, stunt
groups, and teams. He is US All-Star Federation (USASF)
credentialed through Level 5, a certified judge through
the OCCA (Oregon's Cheerleading Coaches Association)
and is first-aid/CPR certified. |
Stephanie Anderson
Stephanie is thrilled to have the opportunity to give life to a brand new dance program, Metro Dance Center. A dancer all her life, she is looking forward to teaching skills to kids of all ages. Stephanie is formally trained in the dance styles of ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern and tap, and is not only a dancer, but an all around performer. She is a veteran of the stage through dance competitions, musicals, plays, as well as vocal recitals. With a true love of performing and entertaining, Stephanie pursued her degree at the Conservatory of Music at Chapman University, focusing on singing while remaining on top of her dance technique through classes at Chapman and Jimmie Defore Dance Center for the Arts.
Currently, Stephanie is embarking on her second years as a member of BlazerDancers with the Portland Trailblazers. She was a four year member of Tigard High School's Varsity Dance Team where she was a captain during her senior year. Throughout her dance career, Stephanie has kept busy with teaching dance, discovering a love for choreography. Teaching at Metro Dance Clinic, Thunderbird Dance Camp, and Fired Up Dance Academy, Stephanie has had the opportunity to really grow as a teacher. Other dance credits include, the All-State Dance Team, Miss Thunderbird at Thunderbird Dance Camp, and a PAMPTA nomination for her choreography in the musical "Zombie Prom." Stephanie looks forward to growing the program and establishing a reputable name for Metro Dance Center based on strong dance values and technique.

Marci Bell
Marci competed in gymnastics competitively for 7 years
and has a background in dance. She has been coaching
since the early 1990s and has judged competitive gymnastics
since 2002. Marci brings a lifelong passion for gymnastics
and can't imagine any other career. Working with talented
young gymnsats is what she loves coming to work each
day. Marci is PDP-1 and PDP-2, CPR, and First Aid certified. |
Rea Bigelow
Rea started dancing at the age of 5 and joined her first dance company at 9 years old. By high school, she was training and performing with Rose City Ballet and Elan Dance Company, with whom she was able to travel to Sydney, Australia to perform at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Rea was also a member of Hillsboro High School's Dance Team for 3 years. After graduation, Rea moved to L.A. to become an original cast member of Disneyland's 'Aladdin a Musical Spectacular'. Upon finishing her contract, Rea returned to Portland to continue teaching and has been for the last 8 years. In 2006, she made the Portland Trailblazer's Dance Team and has been happily performing with the BlazerDancers for 5 seasons. |
Cristi Bitz
Cristi has been a member of the BlazerDancers for four seasons. She absolutely loves working with dance teams around the state and looks forward to teaching each summer at Thunderbird Dance Camps. She is a former member and 2-year captain of the UO Dance Team and earned a USA National Hip Hop Championship title in 2006. Cristi is also a former member/captain of Tigard Tigerettes dance team. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing the transformation in dancers as they reach goals, gain confidence and embrace what inspires them! |
Luke Cartmill
Luke has been involved with the sport of gymnastics
in one form or another for over 20 years. He has been
an instructor at Metro for almost 10 years, working
with all levels and all ages. He is now currently the
Boy’s Competitive Team Head Coach. |
Marylynn Craig
Marylynn has been teaching for 33 years. She is the
Director of Magic Years Preschool, and has been with
the school since its opening in September 2006. Since
then Marylynn has watched the preschool grow from 23
students the 1st year to 64 at present! It has been
very exciting! She has met so many wonderful families
and been very blessed by each and everyone of their
children.
Marylynn always knew she wanted to be a teacher. When
she was just 6 years old she would play school with
her friends and she would be the teacher. She loved
it and still does!!!
Her experience ranges from infancy through 18 years
of age. But her favorite is the preschool years. She
has worked with state, city, county, public & private
schools in California and Oregon. She has her teaching
certificate in Early Childhood Education.
Marylynn enjoys spending time with her family. She
is happily married for 34 years to her husband Paul
Craig and they have a beautiful daughter named Brittany
who graduated from George Fox University earning a
2nd Masters degree in the Art of Teaching, endorsed
in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. The first
one was earned at ASU in Social Work with an emphasis
on Behavioral Health and then a Masters at George Fox.

Betsy Dunmire
Betsy did recreational and High School gymnastics
for seven years in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While in
Michigan she taught for five years before moving to
Oregon. Aside from teaching preschool, recreational
gymnastics and cheer classes at Metro, Betsy is working
toward her MFA in Directing Theatre at the University
of Portland. |
Donna Ekdahl
Donna has been involved with the care of children
for the past 13 years. Beginning with the birth of
her son Joel and then 11 years of her in home daycare.
When Donna’s daughter Sophia turned 6 and entered
first grade it was time for a change and working with
MaryLynn (my children’s previous preschool teacher)
was a happy and wonderful way to begin working away
from home. My hobbies are my children, who I enjoy
watching playing sports for my son and taking dance
class and watching old silly musicals with my daughter. |
Toni Everts
Toni grew up in Wisconsin and participated on Gymnastics
teams in middle school and high school and has a background
in Dance. She graduated from Cal State Sacramento with
a degree in Recreation Administration and a minor in
Programming for Special Populations. |

Sara Halverson
As Metro's Optional Head Coach and choreographer,
Sara's coaching experience dates back to 1996, and
her love for gymnastics to her toddler years. Sara
has also been a part of the Metro family since she
joined and became one of the first members of Metro's
competitive girl's team at the age of 10. She was involved
in competitions until age 15, when she achieved Level
10 status. Athletics has always been a big part of
Sara's life. In high school she played volleyball and
was on the dance team, and also taught tumbling and
dance, as well as choreographing floor routines at
a local gymnastics center. During her senior year in
high school she began coaching level 5-8 girls and
has been coaching ever since. Sara has been the Optional
Head Coach since 2001 and holds several honors for
her coaching work including the State of Oregon
Compulsory Coach of the Year (2005) and the State of
Oregon Optional Coach of the Year (2006 & 2009).
Sara is committed to coaching and regularly attends
state, regional and national congresses to further
her education in the sport of gymnastics. |
Wendi Harrel
Wendi Harrel (Cheer, Tumbling, Zumba Instructor ) is OSAA safety trained (Oregon School Activities Association), NFHS certified (National Federation of High School Coaches Association – in the process of continuing education), and NYSCA certified (National youth sports Coaches Association). Before joining Metro, Wendi was the Club cheer and tumbling coach at Grande Finale Dance Studio for 7 years. She has had over twenty years of experience in the fields of Fitness, dance, performing arts and theater (Tapestry Theater Company). She coached the Tigeretts cheer program in Clackamas and served as a cheer coach adviser through Clackamas parks and recreation for three years. Wendi has been Jr. Church director for 14 years and is continuing to teach guitar to youth and adults along with leading out various worship bands in the Clackamas area. She has been a part of the local singer songwriter organization in the Portland area for over 9 years. Currently Wendi is in 2 bands in Portland, ‘Miss Assumptions’ and ‘Unezzy.’ She is the Christian Education Director and assists her Husband, Pastor Dan, in working with Jr. and Sr. High Youth at Thompson Read Bible Fellowship. |
Georganne Hodgson
Georganne started working at the front desk four years
ago when her son was on the Metro competitive team.
Although her son graduated and is now attending college,
she still enjoys working at Metro. She is the mother
of 5 children. She also teaches educational preschool
during the day. In her free time she likes watching
her kids play sports. |
Nathan Jons
Nathan was born and raised in Minnesota, and recently moved to Portland with his amazing wife and three daughters, so that he could attend Portland State. Growing up, Nathan enjoyed his recreational gymnastics classes, which he attended for nine years. He also helped coach a boys gymnastics team in Minneapolis. Nathan has worked with children and adults with special needs for three years, and is currently working at Tigard High School, within their special education department. His dream is to create a program to help special needs children experience the fun of gymnastics. Nathan is an instructor in Mini-Movers, Boys and Girls Rec, and helps out with Boys Team as well. Nathan is First Aid and CPR certified. |
Sadie Johnston
A native Oregonian, Sadie began her gymnastics career
at the age of six, and progressed to Level 9 under
coach Sara Halverson. While in high school (between
cheerleading and playing softball) Sadie coached gymnastics
at Sunburst Gymnastics Center and during her college
years at Falcon Gymnastics in Seattle. She attended
Seattle Pacific University, receiving a B.S. in Exercise
Science and a B.A. in Physical Education. While at
the university Sadie competed in vault, bars and beam.
She is currently enrolled in the MAT program at Western
Oregon. |
Cindy Klein
Cindy has been teaching at Metro Gymnastics for 10
years. She has been the Mini-Mover Gymnastics Director
for 6 years & loves working with all of the youngest
gymnasts! She is also First-Aid & CPR certified
as well as certified with the KAT (Kinder Accreditation
for teachers) program through USA gymnastics. |
David Klein
David has been the owner of Metro Gymnastics Center
since its inception in 1990. He has been teaching children
of all ages in gymnastics for the past 28 years. David
is currently the Men’s Region 2 Chairman, is
first aid/CPR certified, Level 2 Accredited, KAT Accredited
and safety certified. He is also currently on the Leadership
Council for Gold Medal Children’s Activity Centers
(GMCAC), which is part of the Character Counts Coalition. |
Bryan Maurice
Bryan started gymnastics at the age of 7. He started
competing as a class 6 at the age of 9 and is a three
time national qualifier. He has enjoyed gymnastics
from the very start and has never lost interest throughout
his 11 years as a gymnast. He started teaching at the
age of 14 and has never found a dull moment with all
his Boys Recreation classes. When he’s not teaching
or working out he is usually doing school and homework,
and for fun time he hangs out with his friends and
goes rock climbing. |
Pamela Maurice
Pamela has a Bachelor of Science degree from Boise
State University in Physical Education, specializing
in gymnastics and competed for four years. Pam has
been an Oregon resident for 30 years working in the
gymnastics field judging and coaching for 20 years.
She raised her three boys to love gymnastics too, and
the youngest Bryan is now a competitor on the Boys
team at Metro. Pamela has been with Metro for 8 years
and loves working with all ages in the preschool and
recreational programs, as well as doing birthday parties
as Birthday Party Director. Pamela loves teaching kids
new skills and helping kids learn self-worth. |
Sally Madden
Sally grew up in Eugene, Oregon. Her coaching career started in High School at the Oregon Gymnastics Academy. She was a 4-yr letter winner and captain of her gymnastics team in South Eugene. After graduation with honors, she coached at her high school alma mater, while attending the U of O. Sally studied sports medicine, athletic training and massage therapy, then graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Teaching. Sally is married and has 1 son. She enjoys spending time at the coast and in Central Oregon, and is an avid dog park attendee with the family pet, Ace. She teaches in the Mini-mover, Rec, and Playhouse programs. |
Lynn McCaffrey
Lynn is the Recreational Gymnastics Director and manages
Metro's Pro Shop. She is also a National Level Judge
and has been coaching and judging for 30 years. She
was a high school gymnast and received a scholarship
to compete at the University of Minnesota - Go Gophers!
- where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical
Education. In 2008 Lynn was inducted into the University's
Hall of Fame. Lynn's four sons keep her going outside
of the gym as she regularly attends their sporting
events. |
Annette McIsaac
Annette has been office manager at Metro Gymnastics
since 1992. Her son Ryan Dwyer was on the boy’s
team when Metro first opened in 1990. She has 3 beautiful
grandchildren and enjoys doing crafts. Annette is privileged
to have met many wonderful customers through the years
at Metro who have brought their children to experience
the fun sport of gymnastics. She has seen many children
excel not only in the sport, but hears from many parents
how this sport has built confidence in their child
and how their child feels a great sense of achievement,
thus fulfilling Metro Gymnastics Center’s Mission
Statement. |
Jena Morin
Jena started gymnastics at the age of 3 and participated
in Recreational Gymnastics until she turned 8, when she
moved into the Compulsory level. She competed throughout
her teens, reaching Level 8, then focused on Cheerleading
during her senior year in high school. She has been part
of the Metro Gymnastics team since 2007. For Jena, it's
all about working with young gymnasts, and she loves
to watch their skills and personalities grow. |
Britt Nelson
Britt Nelson started coaching gymnastics while in high
school in Minnesota, and while she was still competing.
She coached in private clubs, private schools, high schools,
and team and recreational programs in Minnesota and Oregon.
Britt was also a gymnastics judge. As an adult she has
competed in swimming, running, skiing, and squash, and
went back to competing in gymnastics at the masters level
at age 34. Britt has been a lawyer since 1982 and has
her own practice in Lake Oswego. Her love of working
with children led her to get a Masters Degree in Elementary
Education and go into teaching in her late 40’s.
Britt has been on the Metro staff for 2 years and also
teaches art in community school programs. |
Audrey Nix
Audrey's photo will be coming soon... One of Metro's
Gymnastics Instructors, Audrey is attends Tualatin
High School and, like her brother Spencer, plays (and
has taught at the middle school level) Lacrosse and
racquetball. During her middle school years she participated
in cheerleading through West Coast Extreme. |
Carrie Roeloffs
Carrie is a Mini-mover and Rec teacher. She is originally from Canada and recently moved to Oregon from Iowa. She competed in gymnastics for 9 years and helped Coach and judge after that. Carrie took a long break from gymnastics to have kids and began teaching again while she was back in Iowa. Carrie has 6 kids and her son is currently on the Boys Team and loves it. |
Aaron Ruddick
Aaron is Metro's Facilities Director, as well as instrutctor in Mini-Movers and Boys Rec. |
Erika Stahl
Erika is currently a sophomore at Tualatin High School,
and joins the staff after participating as a gymnast
herself, here at Metro, on the optional team. Erika enjoys
a good hike or backpacking challenge, skiing, mountain
biking, and the outdoors in general. She is a search
and rescue volunteer at Washington County as of June
2010. Erika plans to attend college, though is still
exploring different career paths. |
Marjorie Stanwood
Marjorie attended David Douglas HS and Oregon State,
graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Education and
Behavioral Sciences. She has taught gymnastics for 10
years, and her experience ranges from preschool aged
children through the Girl's Team levels. Prior to
joining Metro Marjorie managed both the preschool and
recreational programs at another gym. A former gymnast,
Marjorie also competed in high school in track and field
and cheer-leading. Outside of the gym she enjoys
snowboarding, hiking, camping and spending time with
her daughter and husband. |
Cindy Valentine
Cindy is a former competitive gymnast and has never
lost her love for the sport. Combining her love of both
gymnastics and children, she began coaching gymnastics
during college. At Metro works in the Magic Years Playhouse.
She and her husband, Darnell are the parents of a daughter,
Tierra (a former gymnast who began her career at Metro
under current Coach Marci Bell). |
Diane
Waller
Diane's background includes teaching and coaching
gymnastics - she taught at the YMCA and coached a high
school team several years ago. In addition to her work
at Metro, Diane is also a part-time medical transcriptionist
for a non-profit pediatric occupational and physical
therapy clinic. She and her husband have three boys,
the oldest of whom recently began his college career
in Arizona. In her spare time, Diane is an avid reader,
enjoys camping (in a trailer, of course!),and spending
time outdoors hiking and gardening. |
Joy Wegner
In 1982 Joy received her Bachelor’s degree from
George Fox College in Music Education. She has been
directing Church choirs since 1986 and she is currently
the musician at her church. She began working at Metro
in 1990, teaching preschool gymnastics and helping
out in the office. She is CPR, First Aid, and PDP certified
and completed the Kinder Accreditation course. |
Trent Wells
Trent was one of the original gymnastics crew at Metro
who helped to open the gym in 1991, and trained under
Dave at Metro for three years before leaving for college.
He attended the University of California at Berkeley,
where he was a 5-time N.C.A.A. All-American and member
of the 1997 team that won the N.C.A.A. Championship.
He became a U.S. National Team Member in 1997 and remained
on the team until the Olympic Trials in 2000. As a
National Team Member, he represented the U.S.A. at
many international competitions around the world, including
the 1998 Goodwill Games and the 1999 Visa American
Cup. In the year 2000, just weeks before the Olympic
Team Trials, he was crowned U.S. National Champion
on both the Parallel Bars (the event where he is best
known for having a move named after him) and the High
Bar. After finishing his gymnastics career at the Olympic
Trials, he auditioned for Cirque Du Soleil. He was
offered a position in the cast of the show Mystère,
which is a permanent attraction at the Treasure Island
Casino in Las Vegas. He was involved in a combination
High Bar and Trapeze act performed 60 ft. above the
stage, and performed over 1000 shows with Mystère
over five years. Now that he has returned “home”,
he looks forward to sharing his years of experience
with gymnasts of all levels, ages, and ambitions. |
